Yes! However, both students MUST be accepted, paid the housing deposit, and completed
a housing application as noted in “Step 1” of the Housing Selection Instructions.
Using Self-Service, Simply click on “select roommate/ suitemates” and enter in the
other student’s name. The other student will receive an email request and must accept
it. Please communicate with your potential roommate about who will select the housing
and which available housing to select. You may also simply login separately at the
same time, complete “Step 1,” and select the same room as long as it shows “2 Open
Spots.” Regardless, communication is key!
No. We believe that learning to live with others in a community is a key experience,
single rooms are not available. The College does reserve the right to adjust assignments
throughout the year to make better use of the spaces available, or to make appropriate
accommodations.
First, you should indicate your need and gather all required documentation of your
disability (specialist diagnosis, doctor’s recommendation etc). Secondly, be sure
to contact Accessibility Services. We will work in coordination with our ADA Director
to evaluate your need, determine eligibility, and make any reasonable accommodations.

Depends. You may switch your room or roommate by contacting the Office of Housing
& Residence Life at (919) 497-3310 or by emailing housing@louisburg.edu before the semester begins. After the semester begins, housing assignments are “frozen”
for three weeks. Room change requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and
are authorized at the discretion of Housing & Residence Life staff.
Room “Freeze” Periods
In order for us to verify all housing assignments -- and for you to have time to adjust
to college and get to know your roommate -- we require that all students remain in
their original assignment for the first three weeks of each semester. At check-in
and during the “freeze,” students should fill out roommate contracts and discuss their
living habits together. Following that time, we will have a two-week move period where
any resident can move as long as all procedures are followed and approval from Housing
& Residence Life is received.
A suite-style residence hall refers to two rooms joined together by a bathroom. Up
to four residents would share the bathroom. Students are responsible for providing
their own toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and cleaning the bathroom regularly. Suite-style
male residence halls: Merritt, Patten, Kenan, Hillman, and Joyner.
A community-style residence hall has one bathroom that is shared by the floor community.
Up to forty residents may share this bathroom. Multiple shower and toilet stalls are
in each bathroom. All stalls have individual privacy. The College's housekeeping staff
provides toilet paper and cleans the bathrooms daily. Community-style residence halls:
Franklin, Wright, and the second floor of Joyner.
Each residence hall room has two desks, two chairs, two extra-long twin beds (with
the exception of Wright Hall (standard twin bed), two wardrobes OR closets, one dresser
(typically with five drawers). All rooms have cable, wired internet access, and wireless
internet access. Students must provide their own cable cords and Ethernet cords. All
residence halls on campus have heat and air conditioning.
Louisburg College provides basic, digital cable services to all residential students.
It is the responsibility of residential students to purchase necessary equipment in
order to access the free cable, including coaxial cables and compatible televisions.
Televisions must be equipped with a QAM tuner.

are specific items that are not permitted in the halls due to safety.

Hints
Remember that space for clothing is limited. If you plan to go home frequently, you
can plan your wardrobe accordingly and only bring the items you will need until your
next trip. If, however, you will be going home only once or twice each semester, you
should bring adequate clothing to cover the time period.
Weather
The temperature in Louisburg ranges in the 80s for August and September, gradually
cooling to averages in the 40s by December. January and February typically sees temperature
ranges of 20 degrees to 50 degrees, while March and April temperatures range in the
50s and 60s. (Be reminded that extreme variations from these averages are always possible.)
Please remember to speak with your roommate about the items each of you are bringing.
You will be sharing a space and you may be able to more effectively use your space
if you plan ahead on who will bring larger items.
Electrical power, especially in the older buildings, is limited. Heavy duty grounded
extension cords or grounded "power strips" with an integrated circuit breaker are
permitted. Light duty, ungrounded, two prong extension cords (UL listed) may be used
for lamps, alarm clocks, and other low wattage appliances only. Any other use of light
duty extension cords is a fire hazard and is not permitted in the residence halls.

Pets are not allowed in the residence halls. Students may have a fish with a 10 gallon
or less aquarium. Students are not permitted to build lofts in the residence halls.
Some beds on campus are bunkable. If you are interested in bunking your beds, you
should contact your Resident Advisor after moving in.
Refer to the Student Handbook online for a full list of prohibited items. The handbook is updated regularly with
such information.
Athletes, new students, and returning students move in on different days. Please see
the Academic Calendar for the move-in date that pertains to you.
We do not have curfews, so students are free to come and go as they please. We do
have a visitation and escort policy for members of the opposite sex (see Student Handbook).
If you need to be off campus for more than two days during a period that you would
normally be present, we ask that you notify a member of the Residence Life staff before
leaving. All residence halls have secure front entrance and bedroom doors. Only those
with a valid ID (or hard key) and pre-authorized access will be able to enter.
All residential students are required to participate in the campus meal plan. The
plan consists of 19 meals per week and is automatically billed to your account.
All students are assigned a campus mailbox and e-mail account. You will receive your
campus mailbox number when you arrive for check-in. You should receive your email
information along with your login credentials when you are accepted to the College
(you may also contact your Admissions Counselor for this information).

Yes! All students are allowed to have a car on campus. Student vehicles must be registered
with a properly displayed parking permit, which can be purchased from the Business
Office. While parking is available near the residence halls, students are advised
that these spaces are limited. (Students may not park in the Main circle parking lot.
This is for faculty, staff, and visitors only.)
Since most students have a personal mobile phone, Residence Hall rooms do not have
a telephone. If this presents a concern, you should contact Housing & Residence Life.

One of the many great amenities that residential students at Louisburg College have
access to is cable television (provided by Spectrum). Spectrum has converted to an
all-digital TV signal to deliver the clearest picture and best sound quality possible.
This means your TV must have a built-in QAM tuner to enjoy it. Older model or off-brand model TVs may not have the QAM tuner and/ or may have a
lower functioning QAM tuner that may not allow you to receive the cable that Louisburg
College provides. It is important that you check the specifications of your TV before
purchasing it, or bringing it to campus.
Below is information for your reference compiled from other institutions who have
experienced the switch to all-digital cable. It includes more information about the
QAM tuner, as well as provides a list of TVs that may or may not work. Louisburg College
cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information, so it is important that you read
your product manual or speak to a salesperson or retail associate about the specifications
of your TV.
Cable Services
Louisburg College provides basic cable, Spectrum services to all residential students.
All of our residence halls are equipped with cable coaxial (TV) outlets. It is the
responsibility of residential students to purchase necessary equipment in order to
access the free cable, including coaxial cables and compatible televisions.
Television Compatibility
The Louisburg digital cable system requires a television, DVR or other tuner device
with a Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) tuner. You must check the specifications
from your manufacturer to determine if it includes the required tuner. Make sure your
TV is plugged in to a working electric outlet. Locate the coaxial (TV) outlet in your
room and connect one end of the coaxial cable to it and the other end to the "CATV"
or "VHF IN" on your television. Do not connect to the "UHF IN" on your television.
QAM Tuner Required
QAM is the format by which digital cable channels are encoded and transmitted via cable television providers. Your digital television must have a QAM tuner to work with the cable service provided by Louisburg College. Because there is no requirement to do so, some manufacturers or models may not
include the QAM tuner. Please be advised that less expensive TVs sometimes come with
a lower quality QAM tuner that may be unable to tune all ofthe channels.

from research on other institutions. Louisburg College cannot guarantee the accuracy
of this information. You should verify the specifications with a sales-person or retail
associate before you make a purchase, and/ or check the specifications on your television
before bringing it to check-in:
- Dynex - Only limited models have a QAM tuner
- Insignia - Only limited models have a QAM tuner
- LG - Most models since 2007 have a QAM tuner
- Samsung - All models since 2009 have a QAM tuner (fifth digit of model number must be B or higher)
- Sony - Most models since 2007 have a QAM tunde.
- Sylvania - Do not appear to have QAM tuners
- Toshiba - Most models since 2007 have a QAM tuner
- Vizio - Recent models have a QAM tuner
- Westinghouse - Some models require QAM tuner activation
- Coby - Model "TFTV3229 32" has a compatible QAM tuner
