SUSAN FECHO: REMINISCE

October 14, 2025 - November 7, 2025 | Reception & Artist Talk: Oct. 16, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

In Reminisce, time is not linear. It loops, it lingers, it listens. This exhibition invites
viewers to reflect on their own remembered spaces, to consider how personal and
collective histories are held—gently, imperfectly—in the textures of the everyday.

Fecho's work explores memory, place, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Through repeated forms—nests, trees, structures, children’s clothing, and twin
dresses—she reflects on the fragility of nature and the complexity of identity. She is drawn to
indigenous botanicals and the cultivated landscape, working from the belief that nature
and humanity are not separate. Fecho's process blends observation and participation,
considering how culture, architecture, and environment shape the understanding of
place.

Rooted in the Tidewater region and the Appalachian foothills, these works evoke
layered histories and shifting perspectives—Western ideas of progress contrasted with
Indigenous views of the past. Through delicate layering of imagery, she creates quiet
narratives that echo loss, resilience, and wonder—inviting the viewer to reminisce, to
notice, and to remember.

This exhibit will be housed in the Lumpkin Gallery at the JPAC until November 7, 2025.
