Louisburg College begins voluntary evacuation for students beginning Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

LOUISBURG, NC—Louisburg College will begin a voluntary evacuation for students beginning Wednesday, September 12th at 5:00 p.m. in order to allow them enough time to travel to their personal safest locations in order to weather the predicted devastation of Hurricane Florence.

“Our philosophy at Louisburg College is putting students first, and so it follows that the safety of our students is of the highest concern,” said Dr. Gary Brown, President of Louisburg College. “We want to allow students enough time to get home safely or to prepare themselves to weather the storm here on campus.”

The voluntary campus evacuation should allow students
adequate time to travel safely ahead of what is predicted hurricaneflorenceto
be a devastating hurricane at landfall. Students who choose to stay on campus should be aware that it is extremely likely there will be power outages and other inconveniences that accompany this
severe weather event.

Campus dining will have a power generator and is making preparations to provide nutrition and hydration services during limited hours. However, students are encouraged to stock up on their own non-perishable food items. In addition, a centralized, phone-charging station is being established, but students are asked to unplug all electronic devices in their individual residence hall rooms due to the likely occurrence of power surges.

Students who choose to leave campus under the voluntary evacuation are asked to check-out with their resident advisors, so the College can have an accurate count for meal and safety purposes. Students who choose to stay should also check with their resident advisors for further details, which will be issued as soon as possible.

The College is continuing to monitor the situation in collaboration with the National Weather Service and state and local agencies. We will share updates as they develop. As always, students must make the best decisions for themselves. Safety is our primary concern, but only students and their families know their circumstances best. Follow the course of action that is right for you.

It is imperative that all students continue to monitor their Louisburg College inboxes,  Louisburg College Homepage, LC Alerts, social media feeds (FacebookTwitter and Instagram), as well as local weather reports. Those students and concerned parents without access to the internet can contact the College directly by calling 919-496-2521.
