COMMUTER AGREEMENT

COMMUTER AGREEMENT
2024-2025 Academic Year

PREAMBLE:

Being a member of the Louisburg College Community is a privilege and is treated as such. Expectations of community members include but are not limited to sharing and negotiating the use of space with others, treating others with respect, communicating with fellow community members, and cooperating with Student Life staff and policies. Students found to be in violation of community expectations will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct. All students must accept responsibility for creating an environment that promotes individual growth and builds community through the safe, respectful exchange of diverse thought, opinion, and feeling.  Unfortunately, a few students may abuse the freedom inherent in such an environment. Students who breach the trust that has been extended to them by the College community shall be held accountable for their actions. Hate speech and actions are not tolerated at the College and individuals who are victims of hate speech or actions are protected through the Student Code of Conduct related to discrimination, harassment or intimidation based on bigotry or bias. Not every act that might be offensive to an individual or a group will be considered harassment and/or a violation of the Student Code or housing contract. In cases where the Student Code/housing agreement may not apply, Student Life will still consider appropriate educational remedies.

  1. This agreement must be fully completed to be valid.
  2. This agreement is for all terms as a student at Louisburg College unless terminated by Louisburg College for breach of the terms and conditions stated herein or for violation of other regulations of Louisburg College.

PARTIES:

This agreement is made by, and between, Louisburg College (also referred to as the College), and the student. The College and the student, in consideration of the terms and conditions stated in this document, do hereby agree to abide by this agreement.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF RESIDENCE HALL LIVING:

All full-time (12+ credit hours) students are required to live on campus, space permitting, except students who are 21 years of age or older at the time of enrollment, married students, students who have been in attendance at Louisburg College for at least four semesters, students who meet the criteria for financial independence as determined by the Financial Aid office, or students who live within commuting distance with their parent/guardian. Students enrolled in less than 12 credit hours (part-time) are not permitted to live on campus without approval from the Office of Housing & Residence Life. The College reserves the right to deny campus housing to any student for just cause as determined by the Office of Housing & Residence Life in consultation with the Dean of Students.

PERSONAL PROPERTY:

The College shall assume no responsibility, and the student or other party to the commuter agreement shall indemnify and hold harmless Louisburg College and its agents and employees, for any and all claims arising from personal injury or for the loss, damage, or theft of personal property belonging to or in the custody of the student(s) for any cause whatsoever, whether such losses occur in student rooms, public areas or elsewhere in or around College owned or operated housing. The student is encouraged to carry appropriate insurance for protection against such losses.

NEW ID CARDS:

Replacement of a student ID access card is $35.00.  All fees will be charged to a student’s College account.

DAMAGES (INDIVIDUAL & COMMUNITY):

The student or students responsible for damage resulting from abuse of facilities, negligence, or means other than those attributed to normal deterioration, will be expected to assume the cost of repair or replacement. If the responsible individual or individuals are unknown, then the occupants of the residence hall room/suite will be expected to assume the cost of the repair or replacement. Community damage will be divided among the students and assessed to each individual student account at the end of the academic year or when the student leaves the residence hall room/suite. Community damage charges are not subject to appeal.

(Accidental) – A student may not be assessed a fine for damage if (1) he/she notifies a staff member immediately and (2) he/she accepts responsibility for the cost of the repair.

ANIMALS:

You agree not to bring or feed any cats, dogs, or other animals in or about residence hall locations or campus facilities.  In the event you permit an animal to enter the assigned residence hall or campus facility, you shall be solely responsible for, and you shall reimburse the College as additional license fee for, the cost of any cleaning, repair or replacement of any part of the residence hall location or campus facility, as deemed necessary by the College at its sole discretion. Animals used for those with physical impairments or others as approved by the Louisburg College Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) may be allowed with confirmation of need.

COMMUNICATION:

Student Life utilizes LOUISBURG.EDU email system as its primary source for communicating relevant and important information to its students. Prior to your first day of class, it is your responsibility to set up these accounts and check them on a regular basis. Students will be held accountable for all information communicated by email. Please note: failure to properly set up email accounts, and check them on a regular basis, does not absolve the student from adhering to the information that is communicated by this means.
