Athletics

Position Title: Athletic Training
Number of positions: 3 (2 in the field and 1 for the office)
Hours needed:
  • Position 1: to help every morning for football practice for the fall
  • Position 2: 1 for games (possibly with travel to away games)
  • Position 3: Office duties
Duties:
  • Needs to be able to work outside and lift coolers
  • Needs to be able to work weekends (travel with a team might be an option)
  • Students will be working with our athletic training staff on the field and in the training room. They will be taught how to tape along with proper first aid skills
  • They will mainly do water bottles for games
Position requirements: Needs to be able to lift water bottles and coolers. Needs to be able to work outside
Experience needed (if any): No experience needed but past athletic training experience is a plus
Position Title: Baseball Manager
Number of positions:  4
Hours needed: Flexible hours
Duties:
  • Put dirty uniforms in washer with appropriate detergent. Put clothes in dryers. Remove clothes from dryers and hang in appropriate lockers. There will be several loads of laundry
  • Dust lockers. Vacuum clubhouse floor. Empty trash. Clean the dugouts and empty dugout trash
  • Paint foul lines on the baseball field
  • Other duties maybe assigned by coaching staff
Position requirements: Reliable and on time
Position Title: Men's Basketball Manager
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • MWF-11:00am-1:00pm
  • TTH 5:30pm-7:30-during games
  • Additional hours maybe needed and will be determined by supervisor
Duties:
  • Assist coaching staff with a variety of things including:  working practices, traveling to road games, game day operations (film, shot clock, game clock, book), ect.
Position requirements: Must be reliable, punctual and show initiative  
Experience needed (if any): Experience is not needed but ideal if the student has worked around sports as a player or as a manager that would be helpful
Position Title: Women’s Basketball Manager
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • 6 per week
Duties:
  • Set up and take down for practice
  • Game day operations (such as keeping stats)
  • Team laundry
Position requirements: hard worker and able to do laundry
Experience needed (if any): Ability to do laundry without assistance
Position Title: Cross Country Manager
 
Number of positions: 2
Hours needed:
  • 6-8hours per week, per student. 
  • MWF 4:00pm-6:00pm
Duties:
  • Assist coach, mark course
  • Wash equipment
  • Record practices and times, pace workouts
  • File papers
Position requirements: Knowledge of athletic and record times/splits
Experience needed (if any): High school athletics (track/cross country preferred)
Position Title: Football Manager
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • M-F 3:00pm-7:00pm
  • Saturday-11:00am-4:00pm
Duties:
  • Clean locker room which includes ensuring locker room is acceptable and presentable
  • Practice field upkeep which includes making sure practice field is acceptable and presentable; making sure all tape, bottles and other debris will be discarded
  • Managers will film all practices and games, do all laundry for players, travel to all games
  • Statistician will be present at all games to record and input all game stats to and from from each game to laptop computer; game announcer will announce all home games from press box and give play by play accounts and general information to spectators
Position requirements: All participants must have a strong work ethic. Teamwork is a must as many duties will be assigned to various people; workers must be willing to complete any and all duties assigned by the head football coach.
Experience needed (if any): Knowledge of video camera usage, laundry and our stats crew program are ideal, but not mandatory
Position Title:  Softball Announcer/Scorekeeper
Number of positions: 1
Duties: 
  • Run the scoreboard during home contests
  • Announce welcome, lineups, and anthem prior to start of game
  • Play walkup and warmup music through game
  • Assist in pregame setup on home game days
Position requirements:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the coaching staff via email, phone and/or text.
  • Must be on-time and dressed appropriately when coming to work – team-issued shirt, jeans (no holes), khakis, yoga or sweat pants. Work begins 30 minutes prior to first pitch of the first game of the day. It concludes at the end of the last game of the day.
  • Must be available on all of our home game dates (see schedule online at www.lchurricanes.com on the softball schedule page). You will work around 4-5 hours for a doubleheader.
  • Must accept that the paycheck will fluctuate based on our schedule – light early in the spring and heavier as the semester progresses
  • Must be familiar with the game of softball
  • Must have an understanding/be able to be taught to work technology (laptop, camera, scoreboard buttons, sound system). You will need this skill to work our scoreboard, and play our warmup and walkout music
  • Must be comfortable reading from a script, speaking into a microphone to a crowd
Position Title: Softball Team Manager
Number of positions: 1
Hours:
  • Must be available in the early mornings/evenings as that is when you will most often be working at this position. Some afternoons will be involved
Duties: 
  • Clean game uniforms to be free of dirt and grass stains
  • Hang/dry and fold garments and return to players’ lockers
  • Help assist in pre-game setup on home game days
  • Other duties as assigned by coach
Position requirements:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the coaching staff via email, phone and/or text
  • Must be flexible in hours, capable of time management, and able to prioritize
Position Title: Men’s Soccer Assistant
Number of positions:   3
Hours needed:
  • Monday- Saturday
  • Hours will vary depending on practice and game times
Duties:
  • Field maintenance, handles equipment structure while providing inventory updates
  • Clean locker room and practice equipment when needed
  • Assist in pre and post-game day operations
  • Assist with providing and compiling match reports
  • Other duties as assigned by Soccer Department staff
Position requirements: Most be punctual, must demonstrate a positive attitude and good work ethic

Position Title: Women's Soccer Assistant
Number of positions: 3
Hours needed:
  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • 4:00pm -6:00pm
Duties:
  • Update game stats, paperwork, maintain and keep trash off soccer fields
  • Assist with laundry
  • Team liaison; assist with game day preparations
  • Return water coolers and bottles to training room, clean bus after travel
  • Assist in creating recruiting logs and profiles,

Experience needed (if any):  Computers - Microsoft Excel, Word, operate industrial washing machine/dryer, common sense
Position Title: Sports Information Aid
Number of positions:   1
Hours needed:
  • Hours will vary depending on the various sporting events
Duties:
  • Student Assistant will attend some sporting events and take pictures.
  • Student will also assist with releases and website maintenance.
Position requirements:
Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Also, the individual must be capable of doing physical labor and willing to work flexible hours on nights and weekends. Student worker needs to have good communication skills, as well as be a dependable, reliable, and flexible individual to work with.
Experience needed (if any):  Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is necessary. Student-worker should have some knowledge of the various sports being covered.
Position Title: Volleyball Administrative Assistant

Duties:
  • Make copies; prepare documents using Microsoft Word
  • Prepare reports/stats using Microsoft Excel; 
  • Help coordinate events such as games, Hurricane Scholar Athlete Night, Hall of Fame, etc.
Position requirements: Reliable and prompt; able to complete tasks with little supervision; positive attitude and personality; sharp; strong computer skills. Ability to work in a busy and fast-paced environment with several distractions; enjoys working with athletics and student athletes; must be able to take directions well

Position Title: Mascot, Cat 5
Number of positions:  1
Hours needed: 
  • Flexible Hours
  • Hours will vary depending on various sporting and campus events.
  • Must be able to attend all game days, including but not limited to Football and Basketball Games (this will include weekdays and weekend events). Please see football and basketball game schedules online at lchurricanes.com.
Duties:
  • Represent the college by wearing the provided mascot uniform, and/or dressing up in appropriate attire (i.e., face paint and t-shirt), and attending all required sporting and campus events. 
  • Help spread school spirit even when not wearing your uniform. 
  • Participate in other events such as pep rallies, festivals, and parades. 
  • Meet with the cheerleading coach to discuss upcoming games, practices, and events. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Admissions

Position Title: Information Desk Assistant
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • Monday-Friday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Duties:
  • Greet guests, manage switchboard, answer phone calls, take detailed notes
  • Data entry, process mailings, make packets for prospective students (materials provided)
  • Deliver and pick up mail, make copies, send faxes
  • carry items from storage room to office, errands,
  • Type Word and Excel documents
  • Guide visitors to appropriate offices,
  • Manage television sideshow for visitors
  • Other duties as assigned
Position requirements: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher, must be able to take clear, detailed notes, must be able to focus on task, must be calm and consistent on phone, must be welcoming to all guests, must have a great personality.
Experience needed (if any):  Preferred experience managing phone calls and/or general customer service
Position Title: Admissions Assistant
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • Approximately 6 hours a week
  • Monday-Friday; flexible schedule (between 8:30am - 5:00pm)
Duties:
  • Data entry, filing, mailing, sorting, alphabetizing, errands
  • Answering phones, greeting guests, making phone calls
  • Typing Microsoft Word and Excel documents
  • Making copies, sending faxes, stamping folders, using paper cutter
  • Carrying items to/from storeroom
  • Other duties as assigned

Advancement

 Art

Position Title: Studio Coordinator/Gallery Assistant
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • 6-8 pm, 4 nights a week
Duties:
  • Lock up and turning off lights and AC in art studio each evening
  • Ensure that each studio art student cleans up after themselves each evening
  • Ensure that the Art Building is clean and in general good order each events (including washing out buckets and cleaning off tables)
  • Assist the Visual Arts Supervisor with the installation and removal of each of the Traveling Art Series Exhibitions
  • Must be present at each of the Art Openings to assist with whatever is needed
Position requirements:  Needs to be honest, dependable, a team player and excellent communicator. Requires a strong work ethic; a certain amount of physical strength and math skills are required at times. Enrollment in an Art class is preferred, but not required. Attention to detail and having pride in creating a clean and safe work environment is a must.
Experience needed (if any): Previous enrollment in an Art class in high school or a history of using hands a strong plus.

Auditorium & Concerts

Position Title: Tech Assistant
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • Weekends Sept- April
  • 2-3 hours once or twice a month
Duties:
  • Learning about and operating sound equipment
  • Event coordination, staging set-up and strike
  • Unloading and loading equipment
  • Taping and securing objects onstage, lighting, and miscellaneous backstage tasks
  • Requires some heavy lifting
  • Willingness to work weekends.
Position requirements:  Prefer someone who has experience with either sound, lighting or as a stagehand.
Experience needed (if any): Previous experience working in an auditorium

Business Office

Position Title: Student Assistant
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • M-F 9AM-Noon or 1-5PM
Duties:
  • Filing, folding and stuffing statements into envelopes
  • Assist with various office duties
  • Enter parking permits into system
  • Help Human Resource Director develop archived records management system, organize currently archived files
  • Special project work as needed
  • Create new Employee Orientation Kits
  • Assist in preparing for fall Open Enrollment Process which would include copying, creating, and distributing information packets
Position requirements:  Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, must know how to alphabetize correctly, file, must be able to lift 20lbs, basic knowledge of answering phones, good customer service skills basic computer skills.

Bookstore

Position Title: Bookstore/Office Services Assistant
Number of positions:  6
Hours needed:
  • 6 hours a week, flexible schedule
Duties:
  • Run register, one-card, and credit card machine
  • Straighten and stock shelves
  • Assist with counting inventory as needed
  • Assist customers with picking up mail room packages by having them signed out.
  • Assist with mail room duties as needed. (such as sorting and forwarding mail)   
Position requirements: Standing, lifting and basic math
Experience needed (if any):  Previous retail experience highly preferable but it is not required

Campus Police

Position Title: Campus Safety Student Officer
Number of positions: 2
Hours: 
  • Morning shift – 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Evening shift - 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
 
Duties: 
  • Assist Campus Safety personnel with non-emergency assignments.
  • Required to respond to routine non-emergency calls including, but not limited to, locking and unlocking doors/buildings, assisting motorists, and issuing parking citations.
  • Will perform additional duties as assigned by the on-duty Campus Safety Officer and/or the Director of Campus Safety.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality.

CHAPEL

Position Title: Administrative/Liturgical Assistant
Number of positions: 3
Hours needed:
  • Six hours weekly:
  • Monday (2 hrs), Tuesdays (2 hrs) and Thursdays (2 hrs)
Duties:
  • Helping with weekly preparation of bulletins for worship and printed material for other events as needed
  • Ensuring worship space, conference room and lobby is kept neat and tidy and in a state of readiness for use (this in addition to the cleaning Housekeeping supplies)
  • Serve as liaison between Chaplain and student body when Chaplain not in office, i.e. taking and relaying messages, helping set appointments, answering general inquiries regarding the OSL, and referring matters to Chaplain as needed and on a timely basis
  • Helping with the filing and record keeping of minutes and other documentation for CLC meetings and others
  • Helping to promote and participating in events sponsored by the OSL/CLC, (e.g., Baccalaureate services)

Position requirements:

Position Title: Counseling Center Assistant

  • Hours are flexible based on student's academic schedule.
Duties:
  • Record data by hand and on computer
  • Put up posters around campus
  • Assist with set up and tear down for activities
  • Answer phones and take messages
  • File, copy, sort, staple, organize
  • Run simple errands on campus
  • On-line research on various mental health topics
  • Assist with CHOICES Program as needed
Position requirements: Ability to work independently, High rate of accuracy and detail in work, Proficient in word, excel, power point and preferably publisher, required to sign a Confidentiality Statement. Must have a faculty of staff recommendation in writing, it can be emailed to the supervisor or a phone call to supervisor.

Financial Aid

Position Title: Financial Aid Assistant
Number of positions:  2
Hours needed:
  • Hours are flexible based on student's academic schedule.
Duties:
  • Answer phones, greet visitors and students
  • Make labels, create folders, make copies, file
  • Enter document tracking on student accounts
  • Help with special mailing projects
  • Must know how to alphabetize
Position requirements: Candidates must have a 2.5GPA or higher; must be trustworthy, reliable, punctual and honest; should be able to work independently when necessary; need to have excellent communication, phone and customer service skills; possess and keep a good attitude and work ethic; need to know how to prioritize, organize and alphabetize.
Experience needed (if any):  Working knowledge of computer and Microsoft Office software, some experience working with public. Will train on CAMS system.

Human Resources

Position Title: Human Resources Assistant
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • Sometime between 8:30am and 3:00pm
  • Any days M-F
Duties:
  • Variety of clerical and office duties (such as filing, making copies, mailers which include labels etc)
Position requirements: 3.0 GPA, knowledge and experience using Google Docs, Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to file correctly and follow directions.
Experience needed (if any): Not required however would prefer office / clerical experience.

Library

Position Title: Student Library Assistant
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • Will be determined by supervisor
Duties:
  • Check books in and out and desensitize books after checking them out
  • Reshelve books-sensitize and ensure that items have been checked in before reshelving
  • Help sort mail
  • Check in magazines and newspapers
  • Stamp and insert security strips into magazines
  • Assist with printers-help students print, fill paper and notify librarians of any problems
  • Clean computer screens, keyboards and mice
  • Answer the phone at the Circulation Desk if a librarian is not available. 
  • Straighten library floor and computer lab-push in chairs, clear tables and desks

Physical Plant

Position Title: Residence Hall Escort

Position Title: Maintenance Assistant

Duties:
  • Position involves manual labor
  • Duties will vary from day to day
  • Duties can be inside or outside
Position requirements: Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds. Report to work as scheduled, with a positive attitude and ready to work, should be able to work independently when necessary, must take initiative.

Registrar's Office

Position Title: Assistant to Administrative Assistant / Records Specialists for Registrar’s Office
Number of positions: 2
Hours needed:
  • 6 hours a week
Duties:
  • Follows FERPA regulations and privacy practices in the operation and servicing of the Registrar's office; Reads and understands FERPA regulations and privacy practices & Student Records and Retention Policy
  • Maintains Student files, including ensuring correct filing order for all retained documents and records and applying appropriate indexing criteria to documents
  • Conducts research and locates documents and records; receives, researches and responds to requests for information and records requests; reviews requests for record releases; pulls, copies and re-files documents; receives and processes transcripts; data entry; scanning and shredding files; and mailing and creating letters
  • Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing information and handling issues that may require sensitivity and the use of sound independent judgment; conducts research, responds to requests for information, refers the request or complaint to appropriate staff and/or takes or recommends action to resolve the issue; greets and directs visitors
  • Provides high-quality filing requirements in a timely, and efficient manner; receives, assesses and ensures clear understanding of incoming and in progress confidential document requests and contacts customer to obtain further information; prioritizes and schedules appropriate time to complete work within agreed upon time frame.
  • Maintains positive professional relationships with interdepartmental staff, students and faculty. Position requirements:

Science Department

Position Title: Science Lab Assistant
Number of positions: 3
Hours needed:
  • Any 6 hours a week between 8AM – 5PM
  • (less the noon hours though the week and Friday’s after 2pm)
Duties:
  • Organize drawers/shelves in prep rooms and laboratories - make sure that what is in the drawer appears on the label on the outside of the drawer; make new labels as needed
  • Wash glassware
  • Put washed glassware away - make sure that there is no visible residue and that bottles have correct lids
  • Assist with lab set-up and tear down for labs for the week. This could include working alongside the Lab Director to prepare solutions, set up and tear down apparatuses, and dealing with chemical waste.
  • Help maintain proper care of costly glassware and other scientific equipment.
Position requirements: All Science Lab Assistants are expected to: 
  • Report on time for scheduled work hours
  • Complete tasks as assigned in a timely fashion
  • Act in a reliable, professional and courteous manner
  • Willingness to be flexible depending on needs of the Science Dept
  • Follow both written and verbal instructions
Experience needed (if any):
  • Chemistry Lab Assistant - successful completion of a chemistry course and satisfactory progress toward a degree. Preference will be given to AS majors, and those interested in chemistry.
  • Biology Lab Assistant - successful completion of a Biology course and enrollment in microbiology or Genetics is preferred but not required
  • General Science Lab Assistant – no experience needed, preference will be given to AS majors, and those interested in STEM

Student Engagement

Position Title:  Office of Student Engagement Student Assistant
Number of positions: 2
Hours needed:
  • 6 hours per student per week
Duties:
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and assist with the daily office operations as determined by supervisors
  • Complete administrative tasks for the Office of Student Engagement (light typing, copying, addressing envelopes, labels, campus mailings, etc.)
  • Assist with updating event attendance records
  • Post flyers around campus
  • Promote campus events through innovative and traditional advertising techniques including updating channel 16 & maintaining all social media outlets
  • Maintain bulletin boards in the Student Center, Davis, and outside Patton Hall
  • Run errands for Student Engagement staff
  • Conduct rounds of the student center to ensure the space is clean and everything is in its proper spot
  • Assist with event logistics
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director and Coordinator of Student Engagement
Position requirements:

Position Title:  Administrative Referee
Number of positions: 1
Hours needed:
  • Mon- Fri, (3-5 days per week administrative work, weekly staff meetings, and large team intramural games)
  • 5-10 hours a week
  • Will work with student's schedule to determine weekly work schedule.
Duties:
The administrative referee is responsible for completing the administrative duties and tasks in the Student Engagement Office. These duties and tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Designing and posting flyers for upcoming intramural sports
  • Assist in completing and posting play schedules and brackets
  • Assist in the team registration process
  • Make copies of intramural forms
  • Keeping accurate files of waivers, rosters, game outcomes, and prizes awarded
  • Take score and run the clock and scoreboard during games
  • Assist with the set up and breakdown of equipment for events
  • Update and keep accurate inventory of intramural equipment

Position Title: Intramural Referee and Wellness Assistant
Number of positions: 4
Hours needed:
  • Mon-Fri 
  • 5-10 hours per week (to be designated at the beginning of the semester to fit student's schedule)
  • Intramural games throughout the semester
Duties:
  • Serve as referee at all team and individual intramural sports games
  • Set-up and take down all necessary equipment for intramural games
  • Provide publicity for all intramural sports activities
  • Create, update, and maintain the Intramural bulletin board in the student center
  • Provide safety oversight in the workout room by being present in the room during hours and providing instruction on how to use the equipment properly
  • Clean and wipe down the workout room equipment each hour while working
  • Create, plan, and implement wellness programs to educate students, faculty, and staff about healthy living and mental and physical fitness
  • Create and distribute a monthly campus wellness newsletter
  • Create, distribute, and analyze intramural and fitness center assessments each semester
  • Update and maintain intramural and fitness center inventories

Position Title: Student Center Attendant
Number of positions: 12
Hours needed:
  • 1 weekday shift & 1 weekend shift per week
  • Total of 4.5 hours a week
  • 1 hour in-service meeting a month, paid
 
Monday-Friday (5pm - 11pm)
Shift 1 (5pm - 7pm)
Shift 2 (7pm - 9am)
Shift 3 (9pm - 11pm)
 
Saturday & Sunday (12pm - 12am)

Attend two hour initial training session in August. Monthly staff meetings for one hour throughout the semester.
 
Duties: Student Center Attendants play an important part in building community in the eye. In order to do this SCA are required to act professionally and maintain a high level of customer service:
 
The Eye:
  1. Perform sign in/sign out of equipment (pool, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, games, other equipment)
  2. Take student ID cards and write down their information in a log
  3. Check items upon receipt to make sure there are no damages
  4. Arrive to shift 5 minutes prior to start
  5. Maintain safety and environmental control
  6. Assist students with proper use of supplies & games
  7. Encourage students to pick up their trash
  8. Keep the Student Center clean and maintained at all times during your shift
  9. Assist with keeping up with all advertisements in the Student Center and Eye
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Student Engagement
 The Fitness Center:
  1. Complete a round of the Fitness Center each hour
  2. Encourage students to wipe down machines after each use
  3. Wipe down Fitness Center machines on your last Fitness Center round
  4. Clean up trash in the Fitness Center
  5. Perform sign in/sign out of equipment (jump ropes, yoga mats)

Hours needed:
  • 11-2 (can be part or all of this time frame)
Duties:
  • Filing, answering phones, delivering items to other divisions on campus, bulletin boards
Position requirements:
  • Punctuality; must be organized and able to complete detailed projects
  • Must be professional and set a good example for other students on campus
  • Positive attitude must dress in business casual attire
  • Maintain confidentiality and have an outgoing personality

Tutoring

Position Title: Volunteer
Hours needed: Hours are flexible
Duties:
  • May vary from helping with homework to arts & crafts to sports & recreation
  • New tutoring program is also available and help is high need
Position requirements:
  • Must fill out volunteer application from the Boys & Girls Club
Experience needed (if any): None, just an enjoyment of children and a want to help.
