Federal Work Study

Program Overview

Louisburg College designed a work-study program to provide financial assistance to students through part-time employment. This program helps students cover costs associated with post-secondary education, and it provides valuable work experience the student can carry with them beyond Louisburg College. Student character development and preparation for the job market are fundamental goals of the program.

We seek to provide work-study students:

  • Opportunities for career development
  •  Educational experiences
  •  Opportunities to demonstrate social responsibility
  •  An environment to serve others
  •  Opportunities for personal growth
  •  Self-help financial-aid reducing long-term debt

Louisburg College pays students a standard minimum wage with an earning cap per semester.  The work-study program offers no sick leave, vacation, or holiday pay. The coordinator and the student’s supervisor must approve hours worked during the winter and spring breaks. Louisburg College deposits work-study wages directly into the student’s bank account. The college issues no paper checks. If students do not currently have a bank account, they can set one up with the local First Citizens Bank.

Eligibility

Students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible to participate in the work-study program. Because of limited funding for work-study, we are unable to offer this assistance to all eligible participants.
Eligibility requirements include:

    • Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen
    • Must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA to participate
    • Must have a demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA

Application Process

Students apply online for work-study by visiting the departments and positions below, which describe available positions. Students can apply for up to three jobs with one application by clicking on the "FWS Application" link below or in the gray navigation bar.

FEDERAL WORK-STUDY (FWS) APPLICATION

Students complete the application, indicating job preferences, and submit it. The appropriate supervisor will call qualified applicants for a job interview. The work-study coordinator makes final determinations from the pool of applicants in each department and notifies students of the results. Selected work-study students must complete all required paperwork and attend a mandatory work-study orientation session before beginning work. The coordinator will send the student the required paperwork and orientation dates in advance. The remaining pool of applicants will remain on a work-study waiting list.

The remaining pool of applicants will remain on a Work-Study waiting list.
