William Byrd Wilkins

The Louisburg College community mourns the loss of William Byrd Wilkins, who died Saturday, October 31. Byrd served in a number of capacities at the College, and with the establishment of a theater program, he became our drama instructor. His acting career took him across the country and around the world before he returned to his native Franklin County. This article in the November 2 edition of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune highlights his diverse career.

A celebration of William Byrd Wilkins’ life will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, November 7 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 148 Jones Chapel Road in Louisburg, with the Reverend Shane Benjamin, Louisburg College Chaplain, officiating.

To avoid a bridge closure, those planning to attend the service should use these directions from campus:

  • Take N. Main St. to US 401 North
  • Turn left on US 401 North
  • Follow Moulton Road to Trinity Church Road in Sandy Creek
  • Take Harris Jones Road to Jones Chapel Road
  • Jones Chapel Baptist Church is located at 148 Jones Chapel Road

Family and friends will receive visitors at Alston Anderson Funeral Home, located at 904 S. Main Street in Louisburg, from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, November 6.
