This body of work attempts to draw attention to the delicate balance that exists between the three realms of nature: land, water, and air. Each image in the series blends all three elements in such a way that it challenges the viewer to distinguish the boundary where one ends and the other begins. By visually obscuring the transition between land, water, and sky, Kolkin tries to emphasize the interconnection and interdependence of these three elements. The contamination of one affects the health of others, ultimately impacting the quality of life for our entire planet. The footprint of humankind is intentionally absent in these images to further honor the raw aesthetics of the world in which we live. Trained as a hand surgeon, Dr. Kolkin walks an interesting path between art and science. He says, "For me, it‘s about being able to wake up and look at each day as an honor and a blessing and to try and make the most out of that day."

"Art possesses essential insight for the possible, for bringing out the inner possibilities of being, thus for making man (and woman) see what it really is with which he so blindly busies himself."
