Students Excel in Business Leadership Competition

June 29, 2016

Six Louisburg College students competed in business skills challenges against colleges and universities from around the country and, for the first time, brought home top honors in two categories and finished second in another.

The six, members of the college’s Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity chapter, qualified for the FBLA competition in Atlanta by placing either first or second in their respective events at the state competition earlier this year. Those bringing home national awards are:

  • Kathryn O’Leary, a rising sophomore from Franklinton who earned national first place honors in Social Media Challenge.
  • Rising sophomores Daja Denis of Durham and Koran Hodges of Raleigh, who earned first place in Emerging Business Issues.
  • Recent graduates Damonta Winbush of Jacksonville, N.C., and Kiante Brewer of Brooklyn Park, Minn., who earned third place in Business Decision Making.

Under the guidance of the college’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter sponsors -- Instructor Scott Benrube and Assistant Professor of Business Studies Brian Sanders -- the group for the first time in college history won first place in more than one category.

The FBLA National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas.
