on All-America Teams

Six Louisburg College student-athletes earned All-America recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their performances during the fall 2015 sports season.

Men’s soccer forward Max Blackmore and defender Steven James were honored as first team All-Americans for their role in the Hurricanes’ national championship season. Blackmore led the country in goals scored (35) and points (79) and scored the championship-winning goal in overtime, while James led a defensive unit that posted 11 shutouts on the season. The Hurricanes won their final 23 matches to finish 24-1 and win the school’s first national title in men’s soccer.

Goalkeeper Abigail Ross of the women’s soccer team earned third team All-American recognition. She started 15 games, making 96 saves as the Hurricanes shut out opponents 6 times during the season. LC finished the year 11-6, good for third place in NJCAA Region X.

Louisburg’s All-Americans in men’s cross country include Frisco Poole (second team) and Haben Zemichael (third team). They led the Hurricanes to an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA national championships, and Poole won the Region X individual championship meet in October with a time of 24:18. Women’s cross country runner Stephany Sislava landed honorable mention All-American honors as the LC women finished 18th in the national team competition. Sislava also won the Region X individual championship meet with a time of 18:26.
