Library Instruction

Library instruction at the Cecil W. Robbins Library is designed to teach information literacy and library skills that prepare students to be effective users of information. Individual instruction is provided by librarians during regularly scheduled hours of operation, and systematic library instruction is presented through the freshman seminar INT 102 Crossroads and all English 112 research classes.

All first-year students participate in Crossroads, which includes a library orientation component designed to familiarize students with the library and its holdings. Crossroads sessions provide guided hands-on practice in the online catalog and electronic database searching. Librarians provide in-depth bibliographic instruction for the required English 112 classes that include research assignments. These instruction sessions include using the online catalog/electronic databases, more advanced search strategies, Internet, evaluation and documentation.

Bibliographic instruction tailored to fit the specific research and curricular needs of the students, faculty and staff is available upon request. The librarians are available as consultants when planning research assignments for your class. If you would like to schedule a library instruction or consultation session, please contact Candy Jones at 497-3237 or 497-3269.
