Lady Canes Avenge Lone Loss As Holloman Wins 500th:
Louisburg, NC , The 21st ranked Louisburg College Lady Hurricanes opened their season off to a rocky start with a win and then a loss at 15th ranked Walters State, of Morristown, Tennessee. Since then, the Lady Canes have rattled off 13 straight wins bringing their record to 14-1. Today gave the Lady Hurricanes a chance to avenge their lone loss, but the task would not be easy. To add more pressure to the already intense game, the team would be competing to give Coach Mike Holloman his 500th career win.

The game started with both teams’ defenses flexing their muscles. Louisburg was the first to make an offensive run, taking an early 22-12 lead with 7:14 remaining in the opening half. The Lady Canes would hold that advantage for the rest of the half and would hit the locker room with a double digit lead.

“I felt great about the first half, especially our effort and the defensive pressure we were able to put on Walters State,” said Holloman. “I told the ladies if we could come out and win the first five minutes, we would win today.”

And win the second half they did, as the perimeter trio of sophomores Whitney Simmons (16 points), Marquena Delk
(14 points) and Jasmine Whitby (12 points) led the attack, the Lady Hurricanes would push the lead to 49-33 with 13:02 to play. Walters State kept applying the pressure but was unable to hold the home team as they pushed the lead to 20, 64-44, with 6:30 to go. Louisburg used a patient attack to close out the day, posting a 75-56 win, and giving Holloman win number 500.

“This was a big win for us, especially after losing to them at the opening of the season,” said Holloman. “As for wining number 500, the fact that it came at home, and against such a quality program as Walter State and Dave (Kragel) makes it even more special.”

Kragel who has 611 wins during his career, saw his team fall to 12-3 for the year. The Lady Senators were led by Dana Garrett with 16 points and RhonNeisha Taylor who finished with 11.
