2007-2008 Hurricane Men's Golf Outlook
Louisburg Iron Team Clash Championship: This unique
54-hole Louisburg Iron Team Clash Championship combines medal and modified Stableford competition together within the same event. The tournament is open to both junior and senior college/university golf programs from all states, and has been hosted since 2005 by Louisburg College each fall. On the first day, 2 rounds, or 36 holes, are played back-to-back. One the second day, the tournament concludes with a morning round of 18 holes. Individuals earn points in the modified Stableford competition and record the number of strokes for each hole. Medal play involves the actual stroke score, whereas modified Stableford play involves using the modified Stableford scoring system. Team awards are earned for both the medal play competition and for the modified Stableford competition.
In medal play competition, individuals vie for medalist with the sum of the lowest scores earned in all three rounds. Five players compete on each team in medal competition, which involves calculating the sum of the lowest four scores for each 18-hole round. Using the modified Stableford scoring system, points are awarded to each golfer based on the stroke count on each hole. In the modified Stableford competition, each team score is calculated by adding up the combined points accumulated from all five players in the tournament.
Team awards are given for the medal competition and the modified Stableford competition. Individual medal awards are earned for the five lowest individual scores in the 54-hole event. In addition, the lowest individual score earns the medalist award. Medal play team awards are based on the sum of team scores achieved after each round. Individual awards are given to the five individuals with the highest sum using the modified Stableford system points earned in competition. At the end of the tournament, the golfer with the highest total of modified Stableford points is named the individual champion.

Hurricane Fusillade Challenge Championship: The 36-hole Hurricane Fusillade Challenge Championship combination medal and match play golf tournament is unique to collegiate golf. Two competitions are being played together at the same time. However, this means that there are no “gimmes.” Every competitor must record their actual score on each hole. The tournament is open to both junior and senior college golf programs from all states, and has been hosted since 2006 by Louisburg College each spring. The tournament format is set up so that the individual student-athletes earn points for individual and team awards.
In medal play competition, individuals vie for medalist with the lowest score for 36-holes. Five players compete on each team in medal competition, which involves calculating the sum of the lowest four scores for each 18-hole round. For match play there are four 9-hole match play increments in the two-day event. In match play, individual players compete against other collegiate players from different colleges to win a match hole from their competitors. At the end of each nine holes within each threesome, the individual winner can earn a match point for ever nine-hole victory over another competitor. The match play team score is calculated by adding up the match points accumulated from all five players during each
9-hole increment.
Team awards are given for medal competition as well as match play competition. Individual awards are earned for the five lowest individual scores in the 36-hole event. In addition, the lowest individual score earns the medalist award. Individual awards are earned for the five individuals with the highest sum of match points earned in competition against different competitors in each 9-hole increment. At the end of the tournament, the golfer with the highest number of match play points earned is named the champion.
