Coaches Comments:
After going undefeated in Region play, the Hurricanes took on CCBC-Essex in the Mid-Atlantic District finals with a return to the 8-team NJCAA National Tournament at stake. In a well-fought contest, which the Hurricanes dominated the entire game, CCBC-Essex came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Despite this huge disappointment the Hurricanes men’s soccer team had another tremendous season finishing with an 18-2-1 record. Sophomore Captain Gary Crooks was named 1 st-Team All-American, Victor Freeman scored 20 goals in 19 games and Emmanuel Yamson tallied with 19 goals in 20 games. Sophomore goal-keeper Ted Awana finished the season with an impressive Goals Against Average of just 0.402 goals per game. By all accounts the 2007 season was another one of which the men’s soccer program should be proud.

Soccer Takes Top Honors:
Louisburg College soccer player’s Chrystel Bakong and Sarah Monaghan were presented with the Male and Female Outstanding Student-Athlete Award s for 2008. This award is given each year to student-athletes who have exhibited academic and athletic excellence. Both Chrystel and Sarah have achieved over a 3.5 GPA and were selected as members of the NJCAA Region X All Region team. Director of Soccer Coaching Dave Sexton was pleased for the two players saying, “Chrystel has been fantastic this year for us and will be off to NC State to play next year. He was a pleasure to coach and will be very hard to replace. Sarah is going to Guilford to play next year. She was one of the most consistent players we have had. Sarah will also be sorely missed.”

LC Soccer Players Volunteer:
On November 10, the Louisburg College men’s and women’s soccer teams, as well as students from LC’s freshmen Crossroads program, held a soccer day-camp for local youth. The Soccer Fun Camp was held in Joyner Park and was organized through Louisburg Parks and Recreation. The college students were in charge of planning the camp, which featured an hour of basic skill clinics and an hour of games. The camp was free and 45 youth participated in the event.
