LC Announces New Football Coach
Louisburg College welcomes new Head Football Coach John D. Sala. Sala comes to Louisburg from Iowa Falls, Iowa where he has served as the head football coach at Ellsworth Community College for the last five years. Prior to his time as head coach, Sala was the team’s offensive coordinator. While at Ellsworth, his program proved to be one of the most elite in the junior college ranks, and his teams won two Graphic Edge Bowl Titles and the first Region Championship for the Ellsworth football program since 1992. Sala will replace former Head Coach Rick Mohlmann who resigned in November. Additionally, Sala will bring Ellsworth Coach Trevor Highfield to Louisburg. Highfield will be the new defensive coordinator for the Canes.
Sala’s years of college coaching experience include stops at Buena Vista University, Quincy University, Kenyon College and Iowa Central Community College. An Illinois native, he graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1994 and received his master’s degree in higher education from Iowa State University in 2005.
Coach Sala and his wife, Tracey, have two young sons, Jacob and Max. The family look s forward to residing in Louisburg.
After a seventy year absence, football has made its return to the Louisburg College campus. In the spring of 2005, the board of trustees approved the plan to reinstitute a football program at Louisburg College. After a successful season in 2005, the 2006 team is beginning to take shape with the signing of many new recruits including some of the top athletes in North Carolina and Virginia. Louisburg College is the only NJCAA team in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee to carry a football program. Louisburg College is excited to be able to offer collegiate football to its student body and is anticipating an exciting fall season.
