After a four successful seasons, the 2009 team is beginning to take shape with the signing of many new recruits including some of the top athletes in North Carolina and Virginia. "The Bob Butler Award"
An extremely well-respected and dedicated member of the Louisburg College Family, Mr. Bob Butler served as a Sociology professor for Louisburg from 1962 – 2007. Bob Butler is an Army veteran, former high school half back, avid golfer and devoted friend to all he comes in contact with. To this day, Mr. Butler is a huge supporter of Louisburg College athletics, with a special place in his heart for the game he played and continues to love – football.
When the new football staff was hired on January 15, 2008, they had a chance to meet Bob. And, instantly, Mr. Butler made a huge impression on them. Not only is he an inspiration to all coaches, he has made pre-game pep talks to the team to motivate them regarding football, and, above all, life in Christ.
Annually, the Louisburg Football Team issues awards (plaques) for Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Special Teams MVP, Toughness Award, and Leadership Award. But they felt something was missing. The Louisburg football coaches wanted to award the player that embodies all of the attributes of a champion: Character, Coach Ability, Leadership, Accountability, Morality, Professionalism, and a young man of Faith.
When looking at these attributes, they all represent Mr. Bob Butler. Therefore, Louisburg Football created one final award to be given – the most prestigious award given to a Louisburg Football Player – “THE BOB BUTLER AWARD”. We feel that the recipient of this award must be a leader in every sense of the word. He must exemplify unparalleled character, moral fortitude, and be respected by everyone around him (peers, teacher, and coaches alike).
The Inaugural Bob Butler Award was given at the conclusion of the 2008 football season. The recipient of this award is listed below. Congratulations to this distinguished young man:
