The Academy

The mission of The Academy is to provide additional academic assistance to students who would benefit from individualized instruction and coaching to help them develop an understanding of their learning styles, to help them successfully transition to the academic rigors of college and to help them realize their academic goals.  

As part of its commitment to providing students with an individualized approach to higher education, Louisburg College has developed The Academy, a fee-based program that supplements the many free Learning Support programs available to all students. Unlike Learning Partners, The Academy is open to any student who seeks skilled, individualized coaching and instruction as a means to help ensure success in the first two years of college.

Academy students attend the same low student-to-teacher ratio classes as all students, but also have access to a professionally trained learning specialist who works with them one-on-one for a minimum of two, fifty minute sessions per week during the academic year. Additional sessions are available on a first come, first served basis. Sessions are designed to meet the individualized learning needs of the student.

Our learning specialists help Academy students gain a better understanding of their specific learning strengths and abilities. They also help them develop strategies and methods for improving studying, listening, planning, organizational and critical thinking skills. Specialists encourage students to develop discipline, to take responsibility for their learning, and to take an active role in their education. In addition, specialists give individualized instruction to students to supplement and further clarify information provided in the classroom and course texts.

As well, our learning specialists help Academy students develop self-advocacy skills, encouraging them to gain practice communicating with instructors, faculty and staff, a talent that will serve them well in all aspects of their future.

At Louisburg College, we want to see all students realize their full potential. The Academy is a program that is designed to provide students with additional assistance in achieving academic success.
