Program Objective: To give needed support to students who
learn differently so that they may become empowered to realize
their learning potential.
Learning Partners is a comprehensive, fee-based tutorial program
for college students with learning disabilities and attention
deficit/hyperactivity disorder and is the only program of its
kind in the Southeast. At Louisburg College, we recognize that
some students who learn differently could benefit from specialized
assistance instead of relying upon mere accommodations. Students
who participate in Learning Partners attend regular classes with
other students at the college, and a low student-to-teacher
ratio is a benefit for all students attending Louisburg College.
As Learning Partners students, they have the added advantage of
working individually with a professional learning specialist.
Our goal in Learning Partners is for students to develop
partnerships with their learning specialist. Consequently, it is
anticipated that the students will begin to understand their unique
learning differences, to learn how to responsibly engage in academia,
and to develop skills that will serve them well in life.
Students' progress will depend upon their level of commitment to
learning and their motivation to succeed. Therefore, students
are expected to:
- Set high goals and to work hard toward attaining those goals
- Take responsibility for their learning with the understanding that they are in control of their learning and the consequences of their decisions
- Take an active, positive approach to their education
