The Academy is available for all students at Louisburg (unlike
Learning Partners students, who must have documented learning
disabilities in order to enroll into its program).
Each student is assigned an individual Learning Specialist, who gets
the opportunity to get to know the student as an individual and as a
thinker. This vital information helps determine how
the individual student performs under given circumstances (such
as reading assignments and different testing conditions). The
Academy then offers techniques and strategies which allow the
student to become better prepared for class work assignments,
tests, and papers.
The student enrolled in The Academy meets with a Learning Specialist for at
least two (2) one-on-one sessions per week that last for one
hour. The student may also schedule additional sessions on a first-come, first-served basis. During the tutoring sessions,
any subject may be covered; the student determines what subject
he or she needs to work on. The time is completely dedicated to
the needs of the student. Furthermore, because The Academy
charges a fee for its services, the times a student schedules
with the Learning Specialist are guaranteed for only that student.
The Academy leads to student success. During the Fall 2001
semester, 5 of the 15 students in The Academy made the Honor
Roll (33% had a G.P.A. of 3.0-3.5). That is success. The Academy
has room in the future for you.
