"I was an underachiever in high school and concentrated heavily on athletics. On my graduation day I decided to make amends, to redeem myself academically. I wasn't ready for a university yet, but my father told me about Louisburg and I made a visit. After two years of commuting from Raleigh and working 20 hours a weekend at JC Penney, I earned a 4.0 GPA, graduated #1 in my class and gave a speech at graduation that made my mother cry. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, my first and only choice, majored in journalism, and earned my degree in two years. Now I am waiting to hear from law schools as I hope to attend in fall 2004. God willing, I will be able to achieve something great in this life and give back to the school that helped shape the person I am becoming."
